Some days, life just feels like a lot.
There are things to do, people who need us, responsibilities waiting for our attention, and worries quietly occupying space in the back of our minds. We tell ourselves we will breathe when everything settles down.
But maybe everything doesn’t have to settle down first.
Maybe gratitude isn’t something reserved for the days when life is easy. Maybe it belongs here, too, right in the middle of the unfinished, the uncertain, the messy, and the too much.
I can have a lot on my mind and still notice the sunlight coming through the window.
I can have a lot on my plate and still be thankful for the people sitting around the table.
I can be tired and still recognize something beautiful.
I can wish something were different and still appreciate what is good.
Those things don’t cancel each other out.
And perhaps that is what I need to remember on the days when I cannot fix everything, finish everything, or be everything to everyone:
Do what I can.
Be kind to myself.
Remember what matters.
And keep looking for the sunbeams.
Because even on the heavy days, they are still there.
